ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Kickstart Scheme is a government-funded programme that supports the creation of six months paid work placements for young people aged 16-24 years of age.

There are 50 placements available.  Click here for a list of the companies and job roles available.  You can apply for as many placements as you like.

CAN I APPLY?
To be eligible for the scheme you must be
1. unemployed, and;
2. aged 16-24 and;
3. in receipt of Universal Credit.

If you do not meet all of the criteria listed above you are not eligible for the Kickstart Scheme.

HOW DO I APPLY?

To apply for a Kickstart Job Placement, you must speak to your jobcentre work coach and ask them to refer you for the job placement(s) you are interested in quoting the DiVA Kickstart Gateway Number: KSFEA5953D along with the name of the employer, the employers’ postcode, and the job title.

Neither the employer nor DiVA are able to accept direct applications. You will have to apply directly via your jobcentre work coach.

 

Weekly Wage:

All Kickstart Employer pay at least the National Minimum Wage. However, some roles do pay considerably more.

Working Week:

You will work a minimum of 25 hours per week - Monday - Friday.

Future prospects description:

Upon completing the work placement and evaluation by the company’s supervisors, the successful candidate may be offered a job at the end of the placement. At the very least, you will have gained a substantial work placement and training, which will stand you in good stead.

Job title1.  Translator for an English/Chinese alternative music film. – Responsibilities- Accurately translate film and audio recordings from localised Mandarin & Cantonese into the localised English language. Accurately translate film and audio recordings from English to localised Mandarin & Cantonese.

The translation MUST accurately reflect the localised tone and meaning of the recordings. A basic translation will definitely not cut it… Test the translations with our English and Chinese colleagues for linguistic correctness. Translate administrative and contractual documents from Mandarin & Cantonese into English, and from English into Mandarin and Cantonese.

  1. Bookkeeper – Responsibilities – Record all company spending, including purchases, invoices and sales. Provide accurate information on company outgoings for the purposes of filing accounts using Excel. Maintain the accounts, verify and post transactions. Balance accounts on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis as required. Report directly to the producers and accountant.
  2. Studio Audio Engineer – Live Music – editing/mastering/(sound design) – Responsibilities – To edit and master live music tracks quickly and efficiently to cinema broadcast quality, organising audio and working to notes from the production team. Must be highly experienced and trained in music audio editing ideally in Pro-Tools/or Reaper. Familiarity with different film editing programmes would also be of benefit e.g. Lightworks, Avid. Identifying ways to augment and to improve audio quality – making the best of any source material (such as removing hiss of air con), being proactive in your approach to organisation and level of detail. There are also some sound design requirements in the role. Whilst a good deal of the edit will involve live music (with interviews), the production incorporates a strong alternative comic element – ideally, you would also have an interest and appreciation of this.

Studio Audio Engineer – Spoken word – editing/mastering/(sound design) – Responsibilities – To edit and master quickly and efficiently to cinema broadcast quality, organising audio and working to notes from the production team. Must be highly experienced and trained in audio editing ideally in Pro-Tools/or Reaper. Familiarity with different film editing programmes would also be of benefit e.g. Lightworks, Avid. Identifying ways to augment and to improve audio quality – making the best of any source material (such as removing hiss of air-con), being proactive in your approach to organisation and level of detail.

Whilst a good deal of the edit will involve interviews (and live music), the production incorporates a strong alternative comic element – ideally, you would have an interest and appreciation of this, and experience of editing for comedy.

  1. Film Editor (x 2). To assist with the edit of an 87-minute documentary feature film on the alternative music scene. Will be able to work quickly and efficiently to cinema broadcast quality, working to notes from the production team and working to own initiative as required. Must be highly experienced, ideally with Avid and/or Lightworks. Familiarity with different audio editing programmes e.g. Pro Tools and/or Reaper, would also be of benefit. Identifying ways to augment and to improve film quality – where the source material is poor will be of great benefit. Having bags of initiative, enthusiasm is essential, and the ability to working unsocial hours where required is very beneficial. Whilst a good deal of the edit will involve live music and the interviews, the production incorporates a strong alternative comic element. You ideally have not only an interest and appreciation of this, but also experience of editing for comedy.
  2. Film Colour Grading Editor – Responsibilities – To provide colour grading for an 87minute documentary feature film on the alternative music scene. Will be able to work quickly and efficiently to cinema broadcast quality, working to notes from the production team and working to own initiative as required.

Must be highly experienced with DaVinci and ideally have a working knowledge of Avid and/or Lightworks. Having bags of initiative, enthusiasm is essential, and the ability to working unsocial hours where required is very beneficial.

  1. Film Animator – ResponsibilitiesTo provide animation skills for an 87minute documentary feature film on the alternative music scene. Will be able to work quickly and efficiently from the artwork provided to produce cinema broadcast quality output, working to notes from the production team and working to own initiative as required. Must be highly experienced have a working knowledge of Avid and/or Lightworks. Having bags of initiative, enthusiasm is essential, and the ability to working unsocial hours where required is very beneficial.
  2. Post-Production Assistant – Responsibilities – To remotely coordinate the post-production work on an 87minute documentary feature film on the alternative music scene. Will be able to work quickly and efficiently with the creative team, reporting to the producers. Working to own initiative as required will be essential, particularly in the more hectic periods, as they occur. Must have bags of enthusiasm and great ability to encourage support and respect.
  3. Film Festival Co-Ordinator – Responsibilities – To research and liaise with all relevant global film festivals to promote a feature film documentary on the alternative music scene. Primary targets are US, Europe, UK & Chinese documentary film /music festivals. The role will also require researching, developing and implementing marketing strategies to promote the film at each festival. This will require liaison with the PR and social media colleagues.
  4. Social Media Marketing Assistant – Mainland China specialist – Responsibilities – You will be responsible for developing and implementing our social media strategy to promote an international film release in China. Develop, implement and manage our social media strategy. Define most important social media KPIs. Manage and oversee social media content. Measure the success of every social media campaign. Stay up to date with latest social media best practices and technologies. Use social media marketing tools such as Buffer. Work with copywriters and designers to ensure content is informative and appealing. Collaborate with Marketing, Sales and Product Development teams. Monitor SEO and user engagement and suggest content optimisation

Communicate with industry professionals and influencers via social media to create a strong network. Provide constructive feedback. Adhere to rules and regulations. Report to Producers

Company overview: An independent UK film company producing cutting edge films for the global market.  Our primary focus is China. We also have interests in the US and UK markets. The current project is focused on the 70’s and the modern-day alternative music scene.  Kickstart trainees will be attached to the Chinese Rocks project. Chinese Rocks is an 87-minute feature documentary developed by Sheffield director Richard Anderson, with the assistance of the Department for International Trade and British Phonographic Institute. Research and pre-production on this modern-day true story began in 2017

Company overview: Day to day activities at TAPE music company are looking after our client’s business. We manage the teams around them, including setting up deals and negotiating terms. This can be looking after record labels, publishers, live agents, promoters, press and radio pluggers, social media management, sync related activities etc. We put together strategies for our clients and help them to create and maintain a career in the music industry. There are 3 directors. Daniel Cross who lives and works out of Barcelona. He mainly looks after Alizzz, one of the biggest artists and producers in Spain. Next, we have Jane Horgan who looks after social media and administration. Also, Dan Garber whose clients are Aaron Horn, Laura Bettinson and Mikko Gordon. We will mainly be looking for someone to support with Aaron Horn. He is a producer, songwriter, artist and sound therapist. He has 3 main artist projects Aaron Horn, Opal Blue, and Crate Classics with Jamie Rodigan. Most of his music is self-released, but there is an ongoing relationship with publisher, Universal.

Skills required:
