Employer description:

Kobalt Neighbouring Rights (KNR) started in 2011 and offers a global service to performers and labels alike. Our roster is amongst the best in the world and includes A$AP Rocky, Lewis Capaldi, Sia, Tones & I, Kelis, Bring Me The Horizon and many, many more.

When a commercially available recording is played on radio, TV or performed in public, a royalty is due to both the owner of the master recording (typically a record label, distribution, or self-releasing artist) as well as the performers on the track. Performers include singers, instrumentalists and – if they play on the track – studio producers. This royalty type is called Neighbouring Rights as it sits next to (neighbours) the Copyright. KNR’s job is to collect this income on behalf of our clients around the world.

Neighbouring Rights is one of the fastest growing sectors in the music industry, accounting for 10.6% of the industry’s global revenue. In 2020, revenue from the use of recorded music by broadcasters, public venues and from private copying levies was $2.3 billion.
